From One Ear to Another

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Ok so I have seen something fairly cute and positive lately in regards to mobile media players…

I was forming the impression that these things were isolating people from each other. I mean, everywhere that you go people are plugged into their media devices and disconnected from each other…

Where the communication is I do not know… but wait!

Today on the train, I saw something slightly redeeming… a situation involving these media players that was I guess, in some small way, actually bringing people together

Now, the school kids are these days… always plugged into something electronic, and media / music players are king… But have you noticed that they all seem to share what they are experiencing or listening too?

Back in the day you held hands with your boyfriend or girlfriend… These days you connect up to each other by ear piece! … How times do change

One ear free to communicate with the outside world, and one ear joined to your girl…

Ah… The romance, the communication, the sharing of emotion… Even if it is emo pop and a baggy pair of jeans

Diamond Days

What will communications technology be like in 20 years time…?

Seeing that all the devices currently are all electronic, silicon based devices, I imagine as the electronics advances, so will the communications technologies.

Silicon will break down and, for want of a better word, melt, under extreme heat. Ever noticed your notebook can keep your legs warm on a cold day whilst your using it on your lap?

The electronics energy operation / conversion creates heat… and the faster the electronics perform, then the greater the heat. This is why at the moment, silicon based electronics can only give us certain speeds, certain operational performance before they will break down.

So how do we get faster speeds with our electronics?

Silicon based electronics will not now make the grade… We have to look towards another electronics material…

It’s an irony to me that we then look back to the basis fundamental of all things, and turn back to carbon for an answer.

The hardest known material in the universe, is also a material that is completely clear or transparent, and also, just happens to be impervious to heat… or in other words, this material can dissapate heat and get rid of it very well.

The material is pure carbon formed under intense heat and pressure…or Diamond

Back in time, and still somewhat today, diamond was valueable, not so common and or controlled by a few. It refracted light and was sparkly when cut at certain dimensions, was prized in jewelry, and used extensively by industry.

These days, that is all changing, now that diamonds can be made…

Machines can place pure carbon under high pressure and heat, and mimic what nature does so successfully on it’s own.

So now we can see a glimpse of a new electronics material that will enable speeds as fast as you want, without any loss or fear of break down.

Dimaond chips… Diamond based electronics.

Couple this with quantum mechanics, quantum computers, and electronics made from living organisms, and I can imagine, that I can’t imagine at all, what the future may bring in regards to electronics and communications technologies…

Or will we just jump all of that silly materials based electronics devices and go straight to Psi Sciences… I mean, who needs a device when we have a more than capable one already available for us to use… the brain.

Maybe not in twenty years time… But why not just communicate without technology… Why not just teleconference with your business partners via telepathy…

Would save on your landline rental and operator costs

Creative Serenity

Monday, November 13th, 2006

We all are creatives to some degree, but some, are creatives by design.

One of the best new developments in mobile or cell handsets that is only just starting to happen, is the change from number naming, to word naming.

I am not sure why it is new.

You would have thought that from the begining handsets would have been given names we could all relate to… It seems that when ever you ask someone what handset they have, the average response is the manufacturer name only.

Nokia or Sony or Samsung etc.

No one remembers that they have a 6230… Something about the numbers that is just not interesting enough to remember.

A chocolate on the other hand is a different story, which is why handset manufacturers have slowly caught on to the fact that word naming is going to be much more appealing, and well, bottom line for the manufacturers, sell many more handsets.

Guys can buy the ‘Tornado’… and girls can buy the ‘Lotus’. Makes much more sense.

Now I am normally easy to please, but in regards to mobile handsets, I still want more…

I want my Tornado to actually look good… Look different from the rest… Stand out and have it’s own style.

To anyone that knows, if you want to stand out from the rest and purchase a piece of technology that has been creatively designed first… then you look towards a company called Bang & Olufsen.

These guys I am sure, get designers to go free form balistic on paper, then bring the creations to life in form, worrying about how to drop in top end electronics second. In any case, they produce so really beautiful technology pieces that set you apart from the rest.

I only just came across this, but B&O have teamed up with Samsung, and with much thought and design process, have come out with a handset creation. And I say creation with good reason.

Now this is what I am talking about… This is what will make me happy… And they have even named it with a word!

The ‘Serene’serene mobile

If this is the future of mobile handsets then finally, we are getting on track.
